The Marine Challenge Program, launched and managed by the Nippon Foundation, JASTO, and RIVANES, supports the next generation of teenage researchers who are taking on the challenge of research in the field of marine and aquatic environments.
The Marine Challenge Program was launched in FY2017 to find challenges in the marine field and to make friends who will create the future between people and the sea. The program provides research funding grants and support through research coaches to the next generation of teenage researchers who are challenging themselves in all kinds of research related to the ocean, fisheries field, and aquatic environment.

Technical Strengths

Through this program, 359 junior and senior high school student research teams have been supported in their research activities through FY2024, and as of FY2025, 40 teams are still being supported. After completing the program, the program has produced many young people who have chosen ocean-related career paths and are conducting research in master's and doctoral programs.
