Development of Floating Wave Power Generation to Overcome the Decline of Land Suitable for Renewable Energy

summary
While the introduction of renewable energy is progressing toward achieving carbon neutrality in 2050, the amount of land suitable for solar and wind power generation is decreasing every year, and securing suitable sites has become an issue. In order to overcome the decrease in suitable land for renewable energy, this project will work on the development of floating wave power generation utilizing the energy of the vast ocean, which accounts for approximately 70% of the Earth's surface.
Technical Strengths
By utilizing wave energy, which is less susceptible to weather and day/night, the system supports a stable supply of clean energy. In addition, because it is a floating type that does not require the construction of structures on the seafloor, it can be introduced regardless of the depth of the water. By making maximum use of the vast ocean, the project aims to contribute to expanding the introduction of renewable energy and improving energy self-sufficiency, as well as to reduce geopolitical risks caused by the uneven distribution of fossil fuels.
Case Studies (Including Demonstration Results)
- Provided to
- Hakata Fishing Port (Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture)
- Case Studies
- With the cooperation of Fukuoka City Hall and the Fukuoka City Bureau of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and after applying for permission from the Fishing Port Division and the Japan Coast Guard and coordinating with fishermen, we conducted a demonstration experiment of wave power generation equipment at Hakata Fishing Port, one of the most prominent designated Class III fishing ports in Japan.
- Other Case Studies
- In addition, verification tests were conducted at Toyama New Port (Toyama Prefecture) and Osaka Nanko (Osaka Prefecture), and it was confirmed that the system can be easily installed and removed without the need for structural modifications, such as fixing the system to the seawall with bolts. It was also confirmed that the system can follow the ebb and flow difference caused by tides without any problems, and that it can continue to generate power stably without being affected by wind or side waves even during the night or under weather conditions where storm and snow warnings are issued.
